11/30/03 ...Simpery, Whimpery Child Again... Ok, according to one of my favorite editors, my colleagues in the press have been calling in to talk radio. Why? To hammer the president on his recent meal at the resort otherwise known as Baghdad. Are we really that surprised? Of course not. After all doesn't the president know that many of these reporters have sacrificed home and hearth to be one of the few, the proud, the Crawford cavalcade? And what about all those bylines just above "WASHINGTON-" dateline, doesn't that entitle them to anything? And so those chosen few, now to be mercilessly tortured as teacher's pets, will go down in history as having, "slept their way" to the top, or to the back, of Air Force One in Iraqi airspace. How could he? After all the money the publishing and broadcast companies have spent covering every thought he thinks, how could he betray the timeless, honorable, loving marriage of administration and press? Because he has over a hundred thousand lives to respect - as they offend the offender, liberate the oppressed and vindicate the innocent. Yes, it's true, this little show of sacrifice and gratitude to the uniformed is more important than our "access." Get over it ladies and gentlemen. Even if George W. was snickering as he anonymously drove past you leaving his ranch incognito, I'm sure deep down inside he really cares how you feel, just as you do about him. Oh, and by the way, now do we think he knows, "what really goes on?" Meriwether Ball © 2003 Johnny P News
