Senator Zell Miller (D-Georgia) became furious with NBC's Chris Matthews in a post-speech interview, telling Matthews, "I wish we were in the days when I could challenge you to a duel." Miller appeared on MSNBC's Hardball hosted by Matthews.

Matthews began the interview by aggressively challenging statements Miller had made earlier in his address to the Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden and then interrupting the Senator, prompting Miller to exclaim "You're not going to treat me like that."

Miller accused Matthews of touting Democratic National Committee talking points and stated "I knew I shouldn't have agreed to do this interview."

Moments later as Matthews continued to question the Senator aggressively and cut off Miller's answers the Senator shouted, "Get out of my face!" The Senator then made the duel comment.

Matthews, appearing surprised, became less confrontational and the interview was concluded in a polite fashion with Matthews inviting Miller back.
